Information Systems and Data Analytics Major and Minor
As an information systems and data analytics major in Loyola’s Sellinger School of
Business, you’ll be exposed to cutting edge technologies and decision tools as you
develop in-demand skills. Our AACSB-accredited program blends technology with other
functional areas of business including finance, accounting, and marketing—preparing
you to be more than ready for a variety of roles including business analyst, database
administrator, data communication, systems analyst, and telecommunications specialist.
Through a challenging curriculum rooted in real-world projects and a global perspective,
you’ll explore the latest trends in data analytics, database technologies, cloud computing,
machine learning, systems analysis, cybersecurity, and ethical uses of data. Go beyond
the classroom to gain exposure to global firms through a semester-long study abroad
program or a shorter week-long study tour —and take advantage of opportunities throughout
the program to connect with business executives as mentors.

Analyze, create a logical design, and implement the physical design for a relational database system. The course includes significant exposure to SQL (Structured Query Language) in both Microsoft Access and Oracle. Students are also exposed to the challenges associated with valuing data as a digital asset and with information lifecycle management.

While traveling to an international destination, you’ll study historical, economic, political, labor, and social factors leading to the establishment of country-specific centers of IT excellence. Data Visualization
IS 460
Learn the tools needed to make data understandable to non-technical users through data visualization coding techniques in software applications such as Tableau™, Python, and R. You’ll discover how to create various charts, histograms, heatmaps, and more.
